Diethylene Triamine

Synonyms: DETA; aminoethylethandiamine; 2,2|-iminodiethylamine; bis(2-aminoethyl) amine; Diethylenetriamine;

Uses: Solvent for sulfur, acid gases, various resins, dyes; saponification agent for acidic materials; fuel component.

Hazard:  Toxic by ingestion, inhalation, and skin absorption.  Prolonged breathing of vapors may cause asthma.   Strong irritant to eyes and skin. TLV: 1 ppm in air.  DIETHYLENETRIAMINE neutralizes acids in exothermic reactions to form salts plus water.  May be incompatible with isocyanates, halogenated organics, peroxides, phenols (acidic), epoxides, anhydrides, and acid halides.  Flammable gaseous hydrogen may be generated in combination with strong reducing agents, such as hydrides.
