Diacetone Alcohol

Synonyms: 4- hydroxy-4-methyl-2-pentanone; diacetone; 4-hydroxy-4-methylpentanone-2; 4-hyroxy-2-keto-4-methylpentane.

Uses:  Solvent for nitrocellulose, cellulose acetate, various oils, resins, waxes, fats, dyes, tars, laquers, dopes, coating compositions, wood preservatives, stains, rayon and artificial leather, imitation gold leaf, dyeing mixtures, anti-freeze mixtures; extraction of resins and waxes; preservative for animal tissue; metal-cleaning compounds; hydraulic compression fliuds; stripping agent (textiles); laboratory reagent. The technical grade containing acetone has greater solvent power.

Hazard: Vapor is irritating to the mucous membrane of the eye and respiratory tract.  Inhalation can cause dizziness, nausea, some anesthesia.  Very high concentrations have a narcotic effect.  The liquid is not highly irritating to the skin but can cause dermatitis. Flammable, dangerous fire risk, explsovie limits in air1.8- 6.9. .
