Uses: Fertilizers; nitrocellulose stabilizer; organic synthesis, especially of melamine, barbituric acid, and guanidine salts; pharmaceutical products; dye- stuffs; explosives; retarding rancidity  in fats and oils; fireproofing compounds; case-hardening preparations; cleaning compounds; soldering compounds; accelerator; thinner for oil-welll drilling muds; stabilizer in detergent composition; modifier for starch products; catalyst for epoxy resins.

Hazard: May cause skin and eye irritation; long-term exposure may lead to eczema; ingestion may cause gastrointestinal irritation with nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.  May be harmful if swalled.  May formmethemoglobin with in sufficient concentration cuses cyanosis (bluish discoloration of skin fue to deficient oxygenation of the blood).  May cause respiratory tract irritation and irritation of the mucous membranes.
