Oxalic Acid

Synonyms: Oxalic acid dihydrate; ethanedioic acid; ethanedionic acid

Uses: Automobile radiator cleanser, general metal and equipment cleaning, purifying agent and intermediate for many compounds, leather tanning, catalyst, laboratory reagent, stripping agent for permanent  press resins, bleaching of textiles, rare-earth processing, printing and dyeing auxiliary.

Hazard: Toxic by inhalation and ingestion, as dust or as a solution, can cause severe burns of eyes, skin, or mucous membranes.  Ingestion of 5 grams has caused death with symptoms of nausea, shock, collapse, and convulsions coming on rapidly. Repeated or prolonged skin exposure can cause dermatitis and slow-healing ulcers.
